The Musical Theater for Film Intensive is an effective two-week training program in Los Angeles designed to bridge musical theater techniques with the on camera medium. With the resurgence of movie musicals and live television performance, the intensives provides rigorous musical theater training anchored in the core belief of the Stella Adler Studio, that growth as an actor and growth as a human being are synonymous. Impassioned acting rooted in craft is most essential in the pivotal moment on film when a scene becomes a song.

Combining current Broadway and film professionals with the studio’s master teachers, the Musical Theater for Film Intensive is a one-of-a-kind experience that integrates performance and analysis of the musical theater form with on camera training and effective audition techniques. Designed for the professional actor with requisite skills in song and dance, classes include On Camera Acting Technique, Jazz for Actors, Acting A Song, Singing Practicum, Audition Skills and Strategies, Business of Film, and Vocal Recording Studio. In addition to the core classes, the program also includes Master Classes with current Broadway and film professionals. Actors will leave well equipped with material, ability, and resources to pursue top jobs. The Musical Theater for Film Intensive immerses students into a deeper, more precise understanding of their acting ability and development of acting skills while connecting their work with the rest of the world.

Admission Steps:

Admission to the Musical Theater for Film Intensive is by invite or audition only. Applicants must be 18 years of age or older. Applicant must submit the following:

  1. completed application form
  2. Use this online form to submit your self-tape audition.
  3. Headshot and Resume
  4. A $50 non-refundable application fee (payable to The Art of Acting Studio)

Audition Requirements:
1. A performance of two contrasting musical selections no longer than 60 seconds in length each
2. A performance of one monologue no longer than 60 seconds in length (contemporary or classical)

Once the online application and supplementing materials have been received by the admissions office, an associate will contact the applicant to schedule an interview appointment. Auditions will be submitted via a video submission form. You can record your video audition and then upload the file to a streaming service and submit the share link to this online form.
